Celebrating Finland's 100th Year Of Independence From Russia

Duluth, Minn. – During all of 2017 Finland is celebrating the country’s centennial birthday after gaining independence from Russia in 1917.

As part of Finland’s 100th birthday, the traveling sauna will continue to travel the United States visiting cities and towns with a high finish population today the sauna made a stop in Duluth.

”It’s really cool to be up here. I’ve been to the North Shore before on vacation but doing this with local Fins living here it’s really cool,” says Sauna owner, Risto Sivula.

Although the sauna wasn’t invented in Finland, the country is known as a place where saunas are a must when building a house.

“When Fins homesteaded places both in the old country and new country they would build a sauna and then after that they would build shelter for the animals and the actual main building.” says Sauna owner, Risto Sivula.

When the year is done, the traveling sauna will have traveled over 12,000 miles.
