Knowing Your Neighbors – Superior Sauna and Steam
ASHLAND, Wis. — For those looking for a traditional Scandinavian way to blow off a little steam, or to just find a way to relax, a sauna can be just what the doctor ordered.
And on shop in Wisconsin knows what people love about a good sauna.
“They’re healthy, and they’re relaxing,” explains Chuck Porter, who owns Superior Sauna and Steam in Ashland. “And it’s a good time to bond with your family – the whole family takes a sauna, it’s kind of mellow, and relaxing.”
Porter and his team work to custom build saunas for people around the world.
“95 percent of our stuff goes out of state,” he said. “And some overseas.”
They’ve been open since 2004, a year Chuck says was perfect for a business like his.
“The good thing is that health and fitness are booming,” Porter said. “So saunas – we beat the curve for the rough years in the past 14 years.”
It’s a luxury item for sure, but Chuck knows how to make his customers feel special.
Superior Sauna and Steam has the materials to custom build the sauna of your dreams.
“We work with people on their designs and what they’re looking for,” Porter said. “Our motto is ‘Whatever you want.’”
Chuck says one thing that makes a modern sauna special is the use of what he calls “perfect woods,” brought in from all over North America.
“As you can see, there’s no knots in them,” he says, pointing at a sauna kit standing behind him. “It’s not just for looks; knots will burn you. They’re so dense, they hold the heat more.”
Superior Sauna and Steam is dedicated to keeping an old world tradition alive right here in the Northland.
Superior Sauna and Steam is located on State Farm Road in Ashland.
They are open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays.
