Minnesota State Parks Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

The Parks Let People In For Free

TWO HARBORS, Minn.- With warm temperatures giving the Northland a little taste of summer, it was a perfect day for families to frolic in the waters of Gooseberry River.

But that wasn’t the only thing that invited people out to the State Parks of Minnesota Today. It’s the 10th Annual National Get Outdoors Day, and parks across the state celebrated by offering free admissions.

“Tt’s a good day for people to come out and explore the parks and check them out,” said Abe Hartsell, a Naturalist for Gooseberry Falls State Park.

Gooseberry state park naturalists say on a beautiful day like this one, the park could see more than 2,000 visitors.

And while Lake Superior and the North Woods are enough to draw people to see the beauty of the North Shore, the waterfalls are what many flock to see at Gooseberry State Park, making it a popular place to visit on a hot summer day.

“The scenery along highway 61 is like no other,” said Lori Gottwein, a visitor.

“You can’t beat it it’s just precious and we enjoy it a lot,” said Doug Gottwein, Lori’s husband.

Split Rock Light House also offered free admissions for the day.
