Motorcyclist Killed Near Bayfield
Driver Of Vehicle Under The Influence Of Alcohol
BAYFIELD, Wis. – A 64-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries after an accident on WIS 13 near Bayfield, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The incident happened on Saturday, June 10 just after 7 p.m. on WIS 13 at Superior Avenue in Bayfield County.
A Volkswagon Jetta was traveling northbound on WIS 13, and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Superior Avenue in Cornucopia, when the vehicle struck a motorcycle traveling southbound on WIS 13, according to crash details released by WisDOT.
The motorcyclist, who has been identified as David Apka of Cornucopia, sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Jetta was treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries and arrested by the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, and currently remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department.
