Bong Museum Dedicates New Exhibit

M60A3 Tank in Museum's Latest Permanent Display

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center unveiled a new exhibit Wednesday more than a decade in the making.

Officials dedicated a U.S. Army M60–A3 tank, displayed in front of the museum.  Mayor Jim Paine proclaimed Wednesday as M60 Tank Day in Superior.

Members of Superior’s American Legion Post 435 lobbied for nearly a dozen years to bring the tank to the city.

One Legion official we spoke to says the Department of Defense approved the city’s proposal because of Superior’s enthusiasm for the exhibit.

“The public support from the city was immense,” said Eulan Moore, 1st Vice Commander of Post 435.  “We had a lot of support, a lot of volunteering and we were able to do this with very little cost to ourselves because so many people stepped up.”

Wednesday’s dedication ceremony also served as a Flag Day celebration.
