Moving Parts Within The School District

Some Parents Aren't Happy; Duluth School Board Believes It's The Right Move

Duluth, Minn.

Tonight’s school board meeting in Duluth highlighted multiple topics drawing a big crowd. One of those topics included the move of a successful principal from one school to another sparking concern for West Duluth parents and staff.

It’s a move that happens sometimes often in school districts around the country. Districts making moves with highly respected personnel.

For instance Laura MacArthur Elementary Principal Nathan Glockle has spent years at the elementary school there but is being moved to Stowe Elementary. It’s something some staff, students and parents who have built relationships with Glockle don’t like at all.

On the other hand Superintendent Bill Gronseth believes the pillars that principal Glockle built at MacArthur will stay in place. While his move to Stowe will be a new process of continuing higher education.

“Why disrupt something that’s working. Why do that to our community? Why not listen to the kids? Why not listening to our parents?” says PTA President at Laura MacArther, Lynn Kuehnow.

“We look for opportunities to align principals strengths with the needs of buildings. It’s pretty regular to move staff whether it be principals or teachers or para professionals to places to where their skills are highly needed,” said Superintendent Bill Gronseth.
