Hibbing Community College Receives $100,000 Grant

Grant to Assist Women Pursuing Careers in Non-Traditional Fields

HIBBING, Minn. – Hibbing Community College received a one-year $100,000 grant from the Minnesota Women’s Foundation to encourage women to pursue careers in non-traditional fields.

The grant will support about twenty-five women over the next year by providing assistance with child care and transportation while they complete programs in male-dominated fields like diesel mechanics and police training.

“Workforce development needs are great in this region and you have to look for different ways to provide the workforce that you’re not used to doing,” says HCC Provost Mike Raich. “You have to go after the non-traditional populations to help support the needs of our businesses and industries.”

College officials hope that by partnering with other area organizations, like the IRRRB and Minnesota Workforce Center, women can continue to get assistance after the grant funding ends next year.
