1 Hospitalized After Shooting In Central Hillside

DULUTH, Minn. – Duluth police are investigating a shooting in the East Hillside neighborhood. The shooting is believed to have happened around 5:50 p.m. Thursday on the 600 block of East 4th Street.

That’s the location officers were told to look for a possible gun in the high grass by an apartment building across from the Whole Foods Co-op.

This came after the victim — a 25-year-old man – walked into Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to Duluth police.

“So we’ve been trying to figure out what the circumstances of the shooting. How the individual got shot and we’re also trying to figure out where a gun may be,” said Lt. Bob Shene, with the Duluth Police Department.

A motive was not known Thursday evening.

Investigators were continuing the process of interviewing the man who was shot to get a clearer idea of what happened.

But in the meantime, as always, authorities said the public can always help in situations like this one.

“It’s a beautiful summer night. Windows are open. People are out and about. If you happen to know anything about this incident, please feel free to give 911 a call or call the police department tomorrow with any information you may have,” Shene said.

The victim’s injuries are considered to not be life threatening.

One male was detained shortly after the shooting, but authorities confirmed late Thursday that no arrests were made.
