Tuesdays are Kids Days Downtown

Library, Depot Offer Summer Kids Activities

DULUTH, Minn. – The downtown Duluth Public Library kicked off its annual Kaleidoscope for Kids summer program Tuesday.

The library has run the Kaleidoscope program for more than 35 years.

Every Tuesday through early August, kids and their parents can take in a free show outside in the library’s plaza area.

Some lucky kids might even get to be part of the show.

“They get the experience of getting called on stage, they’re interactive and they’re having fun,” said Kristy Nerhaugen with the Duluth Public Library.  “It’s a good way to have fun in the summer.”

There are 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. shows Tuesdays through August 8th.

Also on Tuesdays, kids can head over to The Depot for the Duluth Art Institue‘s Art Canopy program.

Art Canopy is a brand new program where kids can try their hands at a different art project every week.

Organizers say they set up their time between Kaleidoscope shows intentionally.

“People are trickling over from the Library, which is exactly what I was hoping for,” said Amy Varsek, Education Director with the Art Institute.  “I love that the kids are just jumping in and parents as well.”

This week’s project was sidewalk painting with homemade chalk.
