LCO Tribe Renews Agreement with Enbridge

HAYWARD, Wis. – The Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Governing Board passed a resolution approving an agreement with Enbridge Energy Partners during their Tuesday, Oct. 11 meeting, according to the DrydenWire.com.

This new 25-year agreement allows Enbridge the right-of-way for two existing pipelines that cross over three miles of the southwestern corner of the reservation. The two lines run from Superior, Wisconsin to Illionis

Enbridge has operated one pipeline through the easement since 1968 and added a second line through the reservation in 1998.

A statement issued by the tribe states Enbridge will compensate the tribe for the land and will fund annual community investments.

DrydenWire reports that if the easement was allowed to expire, Enbridge would have been forced to abandon its operations on the line and build new lines through an existing right-of-way they have running along the edge of the southern reservation border.
