Maple Hosts Tech Ed Inservice Day
Event Brings Together Local Business Leaders to Tell Teachers About What Skills They Want From Students
MAPLE, Wis. – Manufacturing jobs were a hot topic in Maple today.
Tech Ed Inservice Day was held at Northwestern High School, where business leaders came together to network with educational staff and tell them about what skills are needed for future jobs in the manufacturing industry.
“Those relationships we’re establishing with local business and industry leaders really feeds our programs, [and] informs our programs keeping them relevant because technology changes at such a rapid pace,” said Laurence Charlier, a tech ed. teacher at Northwestern High School.
Tech ed. teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors from across 17 districts participated in the event.
One of the big goals of the event was to strengthen curriculum so there’s stronger employees in the manufacturing industry in the near future. Northwestern High School even has a program where students run their own business, where they manufacture a variety of items needed for local organizations.
“I think our program is extremely valuable to the future kids coming in,” said Shane Sipsas, the president of the Tiger Manufacturing and a senior at Northwestern.
The day also included presentations from faculty from a variety of area schools where they explained their manufacturing-based curriculum.
