Special Youth Deer Hunt This Weekend
The Hunt is Open to Those Ages 10-15
DULUTH, Minn.-A special deer hunt is taking place in many parts of Minnesota this weekend for youth ages 10-15.
Students throughout the state are out of the classroom as teachers work at the Minnesota Educator Conference.
The hunts began Thursday and end Sunday in 28 permit areas which include southeastern and northwestern Minnesota.
“Youth deer season is about putting the youth’s hunting experience first,” said Mike Kurre, DNR mentoring program coordinator. “Many students get a couple days off school for teacher workshops during the youth season so the long break is a great time to plan a hunt that can teach valuable skills and help grow a youth’s interest in the outdoors.”
Youth hunters this weekend must have a hunting license. Those ages 12 to 15 also need to have completed a firearms safety course. A parent or guardian age 18 or older must also accompany the youth during the hunt.
