Cloquet Pedestrian Struck, Killed Described As ‘Strong and Loyal’

CLOQUET, Minn. – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking Sunday morning has been identified as 66-year-old LaVonna Prevost of Cloquet, according to the Cloquet Police Department.

The accident happened around 9:03 a.m. at the intersection of 20th and Washington Avenue.

The 79-year-old driver, who is also from Cloquet, was not injured in the crash.

Cloquet investigators told FOX 21 on Monday that the driver was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, and Prevost was believed to have been crossing Washington Avenue at the 20th Street crosswalk when the accident happened.

A blood sample from the driver was collected and is currently pending results, according to police.

The Cloquet Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident.

Prevost’s daughter, Kristi, released the following statement to FOX 21:

LaVonna was the best! She was retired from being a para at Hermantown Schools. She retired a little over a year ago. She was killed doing what she loved….walking! She would do anything, for anyone! She was as strong and loyal as they come! But her greatest role in the world was being a hell of a grandma!
