County To Renovate The Old ‘Cook Home Barn’
St. Louis County is working on a project to restore a historical building for a practical purpose.
Renovations are underway on the Cook Home Barn near the public safety complex in Duluth.
The barn was originally constructed in 1926.
The building is currently in use as storage for the sheriff’s officer’s vehicle.
But after restoration, it will be used to house additional vehicles, equipment and old records.
“We didn’t want to create additional storage. We’ve housed a couple of different county entities that house seasonal items in the building. It’s been very useful for the county, and the decision was that it was still worth saving,” said Matt Seppo, facility supervisor for St. Louis County.
The county is investing $607,000 into the renovations.
The work includes repairs to the foundation, electrical circuits, windows, siding and a new roof.
