UMD Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority Give a Glimpse Inside a Refugee’s Journey
Interactive exhibit shows refugee struggles.
DULUTH, Minn. – UMD Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority is giving a small glimpse inside a refugee’s journey to help students understand the hardship they face.
An interactive exhibit was held at the school to showcase those struggles.
Students walked across a mat symbolizing a field with land mines traveled by some refugees.
The exhibit also showed realistic materials given to refugees such as medical supplies, which are sometimes outdated.
“Often times refugees and children of refugees come to the United States. They don’t find the empathy. They don’t find the community they need that supports them. I’m hoping through this event they will find it here,” said Gamma Sigma Sigma Co-Chair Angelique Bernick.
Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority also hopes the event will bring comfort to other students who may be part of a refugee family.
