Bulldogs Get Set for Maroon-White Spring Football Game

Although admission is free, the team is asking fans to bring a food or clothing item to donate to Champ's Cupboard.

DULUTH, Minn. – Football in the spring is always a pleasant surprise. And after 12 practices, the UMD football are ready to put on a show for their fans.

The 45th annual Maroon-White Spring Game will take place Friday at Malosky Stadium. The entire Bulldogs team will be split into two teams as they compete for bragging rights for the rest of the spring. The players say they are excited to get into live action following a very intense spring practice program.

“When the defense gets going against the offense, it gets chippy. It starts getting a lot more intense and more physical. And that’s really good for both parties because that’s how it’s going to be in the game,” said linebacker Nate Pearson

“I think the competitiveness on the field, I don’t think we’ve seen that in past springs. You see guys getting into it and showing their passion for the game,” running back Wade Sullivan said.

“A lot of learning going on in the last 12 practices. That’s what spring practice is for. Making sure we’re getting something out of every day and improving every day. Also as a staff and for own guys, making sure they learn who they are and we learn who they are heading into next fall,” said head coach Curt Wiese.

The game starts at six o’clock. Although admission is free, the team is asking fans to bring a food or clothing item to donate to Champ’s Cupboard.
