Duluth Library Helps Northland Community Understand Alzheimer’s and Dementia

1 in 10 people over 65 are living with Dementia and Alzheimer's.

DULUTH, Minn. – Nearly five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The Duluth Public Library offered an education session to help the Northland community understand the disease.

Attendees learned tips on how to communicate with people living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

The educational session is a part of a series to help the Duluth Library become Dementia friendly.

“The library is a respected community institution. A lot of people come to the library,” said Dementia Friendly Duluth Coordinator Georgia Lane.

“We are really trying to get the word out just for everyone in the community to know how to help make Duluth more safe and inclusive for people living with dementia,” Lane continues.

The Duluth Library now offers six memory kits available to be checked out.

They are designed to provide interesting activities to promote conversation and cognitive abilities for people living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
