Recovery of a Native American Burial Site Halted

DULUTH, Minn. – The ongoing project to recover remains in the Fond du Lac neighborhood in Duluth at a Native American burial site has been halted.

A spokesperson with the Minnesota Department of Transportation says only the burial recovery portion of the $6 million project has been delayed.

For two years crews have been working to restore the native burial site that was disturbed by a construction project in 2017.

The recovery process was expected to be completed this month.

Officials say MnDOT will release updates regarding the delay as soon as more information becomes available.
