Fall Colors Are a Fan Favorite in the Northland
Minnesotans enjoy Fall colors up the North Shore.
SILVER BAY, Minn.- The smell of Fall is in the air all around the Northland and the leaves are at the peak of their color change season along the North Shore.
But don’t blink! Storms could wash the leaves right out of the trees at any moment, which is why people are taking advantage of sunny crisp days while they still can.
When the leaves change, tourists flock to the North Shore to catch a glimpse of its beautiful sites.
But it’s the Minnesota natives who truly love taking this time to enjoy what their state has to offer.
“I’m really looking for peak fall colors,” Doug Cummelin said.
Doug Cummelin is a nature photographer from the Twin Cities. He says there’s something about the North Shore in Autumn that keeps him coming back year after year.
“A lot of areas have already seen the maples peak, so now we’ve got a lot of yellow and gold and it’s really holding on well,” Cummelin said.
For some people, it’s not about what they see through the lens. It’s more about what they see with who they love.
“We came up to see the leaves, go to lunch and just get out a little bit,” Chris Jenkins said.
Patrice, Chris, Karen and Mary are sisters.
They make a point to spend a day up the North Shore together at least once a year.
“Everybody has their busy lives and so we have that one time that we can really get together and it’s a really special time coming to the north shore,” Mary Nemmers said.
Their favorite spot? Over looking Lake Superior right past the Silver Creek tunnel.
“And the sun is shining on the lake is gorgeous. It’s gorgeous. It’s gorgeous. Yes,” the sisters said.
They all agree on one thing–don’t blink or you might miss the leaves while they’re still in the trees.
“It’s a warm day and that’s what is nice about it,” Jenkins said. “We know what’s coming.”
“There’s just something so unique about this part of Minnesota, that I haven’t seen anywhere else,” Cummelin said.
