Duluth Farmers Market Open for the Season

Farmers market open during pandemic with social distancing practices in place

DULUTH, Minn. – Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Duluth Farmers Market has opened for the season.

Local growers and shoppers filled the farmers market building on East Third Street.

Sellers tell us customers did a good job social distancing and wearing masks while shopping for locally-grown produce and other products.

“This COVID thing has really made people get local food systems are the anchor of the local economy and they’re coming out, and they’re spending their money here, they’re supporting us,” said Cindy Hale, owner of Clover Valley Farms. “It makes us feel good, it makes them feel good.”

Customers say it was a great way to get out of the house and partake in one of their favorite summer traditions.

One man says he attends every local farmers market he can. He says the pandemic makes it even more important to support local farms.

“I think it’s more now to support the local businesses than the big businesses,” said farmers market shopper Scott Maikisch. “We need to support the locals because, if we don’t support the locals, the locals ain’t going to be around.”

The Duluth Farmers Market is open every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
