Two Seriously Injured in Sawyer County Head-On Crash

SAWYER COUNTY, Wis. – Authorities say two people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash Sunday afternoon on State Highway 77 in the Town of Hayward.

According to reports, Sawyer County Deputies responded to the crash near the intersection of County Highway K on State Highway 77 just after 12:00 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene they learned that a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jack F. VOrlivky, 24, of Edina was traveling west on the highway when his vehicle hit a slushy area on the road causing the Jeep to cross the centerline.

The Jeep collided head-on with a Ford F-150 heading eastbound on the highway driven by Wanda E. Denzer, 58, of Hayward.

Both the drivers sustained severe injuries in the crash and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Authorities say a passenger in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries in the crash and three passengers in the Jeep were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.
