Duluth Denfeld, East Plan for In-Person Graduation Ceremonies
DULUTH, Minn. – Officials at Denfeld and Duluth East say they are planning in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021.
Both schools are considering multiple options to accommodate for COVID-19 safety concerns.
“Our principals and school staff are working hard to ensure graduation ceremonies are safe and meaningful,” said John Magas, ISD 709 Superintendent. “We ask everyone in our community to continue to follow COVID safety protocols to stop the spread and ensure students are able to graduate in-person, with their friends and family this year.”
Denfeld officials say there is the possibility of an all-class graduation on the Public Schools Stadium football field or two separate ceremonies in the Denfeld Auditorium.
Duluth East officials are also planning for two separate ceremonies at Amsoil Arena to allow for safe social distancing.
Both schools emphasized that plans could change at any time due to the pandemic.
“Our schools have had discussions, both formal and informal, with students and staff regarding how to provide a safe, in-person graduation experience this year,” said Danette Seboe, Duluth East High School Principal. “The goal of this planning is to provide a memorable senior experience.”
“Graduation is a sacred tradition at Denfeld, and we want our time-honored traditions to hold true as best we can,” said Tom Tusken, Denfeld High School Principal. “I’m proud of our staff and seniors and grateful to our community for their support.”
Further details regarding graduation ceremonies and activities honoring the Class of 2021 will be shared by each school as they become available.
