Area Boy Scouts Plant Flags for Memorial Day Weekend
HERMANTOWN, Minn.– During Memorial Day weekend, a group of local boy scouts honored fallen veterans.
Dozens of flags filled up parts of Hermantown’s Sunrise Cemetery as Boy Scout troop 106 in Hermantown spent their day planting American flags around the grave sights of veterans. Scouts say it’s an honor to pay their respects.
“I hope to go through all of the flags that i have here and put them all at somebody’s grave. Overall, is to find every single person that served and put a flag behind their grave,” said Jonah Wright of troop 106.
“It’s an honor, especially it’s an honor for all of them but those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It’s that much more of an honor because they weren’t able to come back home,” said troop 106 member Ethan Deters.
Local veterans started the flag planting but have given that responsibility to the boy scouts in recent years.
