Superior Teachers Prepare for First Day of School

SUPERIOR, Wis.- Schools in Superior begin their first day of classes on Wednesday, and teachers from different departments are adding their last-minute touches to the classroom.

“But once they get in here and they see the classroom, and they see all of us, they just get right into it, and they’re ready to learn and ready to have fun, and they’re just excited to see friends,” said Northern Lights Elementary School teacher Jodie Rudnicki.

Superior School District’s superintendent is looking forward to seeing students and school events come back this year.

“It’s exciting. I think it’s the energy is what I feel is different,” said Superintendent Amy Starzecki. “The positive energy and the excitement for starting school. I had somebody tell me yesterday, even our high school students are excited to come back, and sometimes we don’t always see that excitement.”

Teachers at Northern Lights Elementary School spent Tuesday in staff meetings to prepare for their first day back.

Kindergarten teacher Jodie Rudnicki is excited for her 24th year of teaching kids in Superior.

“With a lot of excitement, getting the kids back into the classroom is very exciting,” said Rudnicki. “Getting the classroom all ready, just seeing their little faces, we’re excited about it. The whole school is just nothing but excitement because we’re happy to have the kids back here.”

The elementary school’s long-time physical education teacher Kristopher Leopold is ready to have his students back in the gym.

“To be here five days a week with the kids is really awesome,” said Leopold. “My energy level is going to be high because I know the kids are all excited to be here. The parents are excited, and I just have to make sure for all 10 classes, I’m at 100 percent. I know the kids are excited to come back.”

Even as the Superior School District continues with a mask mandate, teachers and staff members are eager to return with a more traditional school year. Students and staff are excited about in-person classes this school year.
