National Take Back Prescription Drug Day Held Saturday

Experts say there has been a 31% increase in opioid use since the start of the pandemic.

DULUTH, Minn. — Saturday is the annual ‘Take Back Prescription Drugs Day’ hosted by local law enforcement agencies across the country.

On Friday, state leaders got together virtually urging people to properly dispose of their unwanted or unused prescription medication.

Experts say there has been a 31% increase in opioid use since the start of the pandemic.

All the more reason to stress the proper disposal of medication.

“People who have developed a dependency for whatever reason and whatever form of opioid they are taking are aware of these prescriptions out in the community. They are aware that people have leftover medications and they will seek them out.  So it’s really important to eliminate that risk,” Health Partners Board, Peter VanDusartz says.
