Annie Harala Announces Run for St. Louis County Board

Harala

DULUTH, Minn. – Former Duluth School Board Member Annie Harala announced her run Thursday for the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners District 1 seat.

Harala, a local entrepreneur and longtime Hillside resident says she understands the important intersection between mission-driven non-profits, innovative businesses, and the value of the public sector because she’s built her career around all of them.

“To keep these systems strong, the County needs leaders that understand and support the government agencies’ core services while continuing to push toward innovations that are the right fit for county staff and residents,” Harala said.

The St. Louis County 1st district encompasses Park Point, the Hillside, Chester Bowl, and Duluth Heights.

The 1st district seat has been held by Frank Jewell who announced earlier this month he would not be seeking re-election.

“As a County, we need to work together for the betterment of our entire region. Our public health services don’t stop at some imaginary line between Duluth’s Hillside and Hibbing. The senior living in a rural part of the county needs broadband just as much as the student within a municipal boundary. The Port of Duluth doesn’t just ship products from Duluth, it serves the entire region. As a County Commission, we can be the catalyst for collaboration, especially if we want to compete nationally, let alone globally.”
