New Warming Center in Lincoln Park Opens on February 7th
DULUTH, Minn. – On Monday, a new warming center in the Lincoln Park neighborhood will be opening its doors.
The new nearly half-a-million-dollar warming shelter in the Lincoln Park Community Center has space for 50 to 100 people depending on staffing.
After four years of temporary spaces, officials with the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority believe they have finally found a permanent space.
“The opportunity came up with the city’s award of the CARES Act money. So, we took that opportunity to apply funds through the city and they awarded it realizing the great need for this project and those funds do come with strings; it has to stay a warming center during the winter months for a ten year period,” Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority Executive Director, Jill Keppers explains.
The new warming center, opening on February 7th, will be open from 6 pm to 8 am, 7 days a week until April 1st.
