UW-Superior Re-Names Track Meet “Maday Classic” After Late Yellowjacket

The UW-Superior track and field program has re-named their alumni meet for Saturday to honor former student-athlete and coach Sam Maday, who passed away suddenly in December. The ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior track and field program has re-named their alumni meet for Saturday to honor former student-athlete and coach Sam Maday, who passed away suddenly in December.

It will now be called the “Maday Classic” and there will be a short ceremony on Saturday that will include a banner and plaque reveal with his family in attendance.

“For all of us to kind of be able to get together in a competitive sense for something that he loved. He loved being at these meets and loved being a part of this and being with these athletes. This is his home just as much as any other part of his life. So to have a meet with his name on it and us to come together for him, it’s fitting,” UWS track and field head coach Glen Drexler said.

The action begins Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and the ceremony will be streamed on Ifan.
