Proctor High School Holds Special Send-Off for Boys Nordic Ski Team

The Rails will be taking part in the action for the first time since 1997.

PROCTOR, Minn. – The state tournament for high school Nordic skiing begins Wednesday at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.

The Proctor boys will be taking part in the action for the first time since 1997. To celebrate their trip, the school held a special send-off before they made their trek up north.

“It’s amazing, the community support. They just rallied around the team. We’ve got amazing volunteers that help coach and help wax. They test skis and really rally around the team so community support is amazing,” said head coach Josh Gookins.

“Our Coach Gookins was one of the original skiers I think on the team that went so to continue his legacy has been awesome,” senior Joshua Knight said.

The meet begins at 2 p.m. with the 5k classic and continues through Thursday.
