Esko Baseball with Record Setting Season
Esko now holds the MSHSL record for lowest batting average against with a combined .140.
ESKO, Minn.- The book closed on the 2023 prep baseball season this past Friday with one State Championship coming home to the Northland, by way of Esko’s 9-0 shutout over Perham to claim their first ever State Title. Aside from being the champs of Class AA, the Eskomos were on a tear this season, shattering one record after another.
Esko finished the season 27-1, as Class AA State Champions. A season like that doesn’t happen by accident. One big piece of the Eskomos success was on the hill, posting a team batting average against of .140, the lowest in MSHSL history. They come in second for most single season strikeouts with 268, set a State Tournament record for fewest hits, with six through three games.
Offensively, Esko reached top ten all-time in single season homeruns (29), slugging percentage (.574), rank second in runs batted in with 252 and third in total runs scored with 297.
Senior Cale Haugen etched his name in the individual record books with 23 career home runs and comes in second all time in slugging percentage, .969.
