Lake Superior Zoo Hosts Juneteenth Celebration
DULUTH, Minn. — Monday is Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. To honor the special day, the Lake Superior Zoo held a celebration.
The zoo offered a reduced admission of $5 to visitors.
The marketing manager says the zoo is celebrating more diverse holidays and observing Juneteenth is a natural fit with their values. The hope for the event is to be a place of gathering for the community.
“We’re just really trying to open up the doors of the zoo to the public and get as many people in here to experience up close and personal experiences with animals from all over the world, to help share the message of conservation and why it’s so important,” said Caroline Routley, marketing manager for the Lake Superior Zoo.
The Lake Superior Zoo will be hosting a pride celebration on June 25 with $5 admission as well.
