Law Enforcement Support Special Olympics Minnesota with Torch Run.

DULUTH, Minn. — Wednesday was Duluth’s turn to set off on the annual torch run for Special Olympics Minnesota.

Many people showed up today to support the great cause and while getting some exercise.

After the torch arrived in the city from Lake County, today was Duluth’s turn to pass on the torch to Carlton County so it can continue its journey down to the Twin Cities area.

The run was not just for police officers, other departments including the Minnesota State Patrol, University of Minnesota officers and 148th Security Force joined in.

Some officers choose to bike the two hour journey to pass on the torch.

The run is just one of many events of the Duluth Police Departments Special Olympics support efforts.

“It’s something that the Duluth Police Department is heavily involved in, the Special Olympics Minnesota, it gets our officers and civilian staff out, kind of engage with the community, raising funds for great cause,” said Jeremy O’Connor, Duluth Police Officer. “We’re also involved with the polar plunge and the cop on a rooftop at Dunkin Donuts and those all raise money for Special Olympics.”

Today the runners took on the challenge of running 10 miles, and the bikers tackled up to 15.

The torch will eventually make its way to the twin cities for the end of Minnesota Special Olympics summer games this weekend.
