Women’s Care Center In Duluth Celebrates 10 Years Of Helping Mothers In Need

DULUTH, Minn. — The Women’s Care Center in Duluth is celebrating 10 years of supporting mothers, babies, and families in need.

One in five babies in St. Louis County start at the center. The non-profit organization provides free resources which includes pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, counseling, parenting classes, and more.

Monday there were brand new coats given out for kids during the winter months. Those were donated by two local Knights of Columbus groups.

“This morning we had somebody who came through the door, needed coats for her little ones and she said, ‘you guys are saving me, being able to have a winter coat for my child that I could not afford to buy is huge.’ And really that’s what the Women’s Care Center is here for to provide that support. If somebody needs something we want to be able to help get you what you need,” said Debbie Ellingsen, executive director of Women’s Care Center.

One mother has been visiting the care center for almost 4 years now. She says it is a safe place for her to visit.

“I feel comfortable here. I feel like even when my kids are grown, I’ll still come here. So, yeah, it’s like family,” said Samantha Ryder, mother who visits center.

The Women’s Care Center is located on East First Street in downtown Duluth. Check out their website for more information.
