After Tough Loss to Bemidji State, UMD Football Still Hopeful for Postseason Spot
The Bulldogs have two games remaining in the regular season and currently sit fourth in the standings.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD football team’s playoff hopes took a hit on Saturday when the Bulldogs fell to Bemidji State 38 to 31, dropping to 7-2 on the season.
UMD would make a game out of it after trailing 28 to 10 at one point.
However, they could only get within seven in the 4th.
The Bulldogs have two games remaining in the regular season and they currently sit fourth in the standings.
Head Coach Curt Wiese says the team’s message stays the same and that’s focusing on winning two games.
“We’re in a spot where we can control what we can control. That’s going to be one week at a time here through the last couple weeks of the season and cross our fingers we have an opportunity to get into the national playoffs. We still have a chance to tie for a conference championship. We still have a chance to be in the national playoffs. We still have a lot to play for. It was a tough loss on Saturday and I’m hoping we can recover from it this week and move on,” said Wiese.
Saturday’s game against Concordia-St. Paul marks the final home game for the team’s seniors. That includes graduate defensive lineman Nathan Bursch.
“I have so many. I can’t even pick my favorite one. This will forsure be my last. I’ve used every ounce of eligibility that I can just because I love this game. I love the teammates, the friends, and family that I’ve created here. They really kind of took me in especially transferring from the Twin Cities,” added Bursch.
Kickoff against the Golden Bears is set for noon on Saturday.
