House Explosion In Rice Lake Seriously Injures Husband, Wife

UPDATE (November 3, 1:00 p.m.) — Fox 21 has an update regarding the conditions of the husband and wife who were sent to the hospital with serious injuries after their house exploded in Rice Lake.

According to Commander Wade Rasch of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Mandy was released from the hospital and Jadin has a broken back in a couple of places, but cognitively appears fine.

Rasch says this is a much better prognosis than they were anticipating.

RICE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Minn. — A husband and wife were seriously injured Thursday after their house exploded.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said the call for help came in around 11:00 a.m. at a home on the 3700 block of W. Tischer Rd. in Rice Lake Township.

The victims are Jadin Dallum, 32 and Mandy Dallum, 31.  They were rescued from the home by neighbors.

The house became engulfed in flames after the explosion.

Jadin was airlifted to Essentia health and Mandy was transported by ambulance.  Their three children were at school at the time of the explosion.

The cause of the explosion and fire are under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshals Office.

“Early information indicates the furnace was being repaired at the time of the incident,” according to a news release by the Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting agencies included the Rice Lake volunteer Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, the Air Guard Fire Department, Lifelink air medical, the Canosia volunteer Fire Department, the Normanna volunteer Fire Department, the Lakewood volunteer Fire Department, the Duluth Fire Department, and the Grand Lake volunteer fire department.
