Minnesota Firearm Deer Hunting Season Opener This Saturday
MINNESOTA — This Saturday is the Minnesota Firearms Deer Hunting Season Opener.
Here in Northeast Minnesota, hunters can expect deer populations to be down after a harsh winter last year, making deer harder to find. For those of you planning to head out this weekend, the DNR suggests you have a thorough plan in place, not only where you will be hunting, but what to do with the deer once it is down.
Chronic wasting disease affects the deer population in Minnesota and there are regulations in place to limit the spread of the disease.
“All hunters play a role in stopping the spread of chronic wasting disease. Depending on where a hunter goes, there are different deer carcass movement regulations that can take place. So, it’s important for a hunter to know beforehand what the regulations are for the zone that they will be hunting in,” said Joe Scholz, conservation officer for the Minnesota DNR.
More information about chronic wasting disease can be found in the deer hunting regulations book and also on the Minnesota DNR website.
