UWS Men’s Hockey Mixing Old Faces with Plenty of New to Start 2023 Season

UWS welcomed in 13 new players to their roster this off-season.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- The UWS men’s hockey team is coming off a year in which they made a deep WIAC tournament run.

The Yellowjackets however have wiped the slate clean and are focused on having a big year this season.

The first two games of the season should be somewhat of a telling point for UWS.

Just this past Saturday, they went back and forth with the MIAC champions, St. Scholastica.

And on Friday, they will do battle with the 12th ranked Augsburg Auggies.

Senior defenseman Troy Quinn was pleased with his team’s fight the other night against the Saints.

“Yeah we showed good perseverance coming back from a 4-1 lead in the 3rd, which was definitely a positive. We didn’t get the outcome, like you said. We really didn’t finish the job, which is a little upsetting. But I think we have a lot of young guys that can do a lot of good this year and really it’s win the WIAC, win the national tournament or bust here,” said Quinn.

UWS welcomed in 13 new players to their roster this off-season.

Which you would think it would take some time to get them up to speed, but junior forward Gavin Rasmussen says that’s not the case.

“The nice thing about these new younger guys is they’re really fast, really hard working, really dedicated players. So I think them coming in with that type of adversity really pushes the older guys as well. Plus the older leadership helping those guys. We gell well together. That being hard working, we’re a lot deeper in the lineup I feel than we have been so just having a faster, stronger, more hard working crew this year,” added Rasmussen.

Puck drop for the Yellowjackets and Auggies is set for 7 PM.
