St. Scholastica Men, Women Tip Off Regular Season With Wins
First time since 2007 both CSS teams started season 1-0
DULUTH, Minn.- The college basketball season is underway, and St. Scholastica celebrated with a pair of wins Wednesday at Reif Gym.
The CSS men defeated Northland College 84 to 74. The Saints led 39-29 at the half and kept their lead throughout the second half.
Kevin Thomas was the Saints’ leading scorer with 13 points. The Hermantown product added nine rebounds, along with three assists. Fellow senior Noah Winesett tallied 12 points, shooting 6-8 from the free throw line.
For Northland College, Drew Lindberg had a game-high of 23 points to go with six rebounds. Langston Flowers and Jaden Jones were also active on offense with 10 points apiece.
The St. Scholastica men will travel to Roseville Saturday to face Northwestern (Minn.). Last year, the Saints defeated the Eagles 70-62. Meanwhile, the Northland men will once again be on the road as they take on Bemidji State on Tuesday.
Earlier in the evening, the CSS women sealed a 69-52 win over Crown College. It’s the first time since 2017-18 the St. Scholastica women’s team won their season opener. The Saints’ defense stole the show, allowing only seven points in the first quarter and keeping the Polars at 33.3% shooting.
Offensively, sophomore Lexi Imdieke led the way with 18 points, including four three-pointers. The sophomore from Andover also recorded a team-high of four steals. Gabby Voigt, Jackie Johnson and Kloey Lind each scored eight points for St. Scholastica.
St. Scholastica will now hit the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup against Bemidji State, which will be their first game against the Beavers since 2010.
