First Women Innovators Conference Hosted At UMD And U Of M At Same Time

DULUTH, Minn. — On Tuesday for the first time the Women Innovators Conference which has historically been held at the U of M campus in the cities was also held at the same time here at UMD.

The event is all about helping women understand how to take their innovation and business ideas to impact. Which can go from sketches on a napkin to a full-blown business.

The conference highlights women in the university system that have done these things. It included workshops, panelists and experts from UMD and the local community.

“I want people to know that are on the UMD campus, what resources and opportunities they have just within UMD. But I also want the public and Duluth to know about all of the amazing women at UMD as well as all of the amazing female business owners in Duluth and to have those connections made,” said Jill Crawford-Nichols, Technology Development Manager for U of M’s Technology Commercialization Office and the Natural Resources Research Institute.

Another part of the conference is figuring out how to inspire male voices to be part of women innovators to be able to support each other and work together.

The event happens every year and everyone is welcome to attend.
