UMD Volleyball Eyes Redemption in First Round Matchup Against Wayne State
Back on September 30th, when Wayne State was the number one team in the country, the Wildcats would go on to sweep the Bulldogs in straight sets.
DULUTH, Minn.- For the 24th time in program history, the UMD volleyball team is onto the big dance.
The Bulldogs heard their name called on Monday night in the selection show.
They drew the 7th seed in the central region and will match up with the 2nd seed, who just so happens to be a conference foe. That would be the Wayne State Wildcats.
The two teams only met once in the regular season. Back on September 30th, when Wayne State was the number one team in the country, the Wildcats would go on to sweep the Bulldogs in straight sets.
Head Coach Jim Boos says since that last matchup, his team has found their identity and some success like they had in previous years.
“I think we’re definitely a different group than them. You know Wayne’s been solid all-year long. Even in their loss to St. Cloud, they had every opportunity to finish that off and win it as well. It wasn’t like they played poorly. So they’re not going to ebb and flow a lot. Which means we have to play at a high level if we’re going to be able to beat them,” said Boos.
“I think offensively all of our hitters can be a threat. So I think that’s something that they may struggle with when we are in systems. Mads can get the ball to anyone and hopefully we can put it away and I feel that’s something we’re good at,” added UMD 5th year middle blocker, Hope Schjenken.
The game between the Bulldogs and Wildcats takes place on November 30th at Concordia-St. Paul.
