18th Annual Gobble Gallop 5K Fun On Thanksgiving Day

DULUTH, Minn. — Racers trotted through the streets earlier this Thanksgiving Day for the 18th annual Gobble Gallop 5K.

Produced by the Duluth Running Company it is a tradition for many people to run before the big meal. Other race options also included the Tough Turkey one mile and the Gobble Giddy Up for kids.

This year’s charity partner is Safe Haven Shelter and Resource. A portion of the proceeds raised from the races will go towards them. The goal is to raise $8,000 for the organization.

One family drove 2 hours to gallop and are planning to run every year from now on.

“First time the family and I have been up here doing this and just got out of we live in Minneapolis so got out of town for the weekend and decided to run this up here,” said Nicholas Ellis, race participant.

There were about 1,700 participants gathered Thursday. Race organizers say these family fun races are something they always look to improve.

“We’re always planning to see how we can make improvements and how we can incorporate the community in the event and make it fun for everybody,” said Eric Borer, executive events director for the Duluth Running Co.

Local Duluthian Scott Behling won the Gobble Gallop 5K this year. He has won the race many times.
