Duluth East Boys Basketball Looks to Use New Shot Clock Rules to Advantage
The Greyhounds open the season December 8th at Shakopee.
DULUTH, Minn.- Any year you pick up twenty wins, that’s something you can pat yourself on the back for.
But for the Duluth East boys basketball team there isn’t many players back from that roster.
Head Coach Rhett McDonald enters his 12th year leading the Greyhounds.
He returns two players that have seen significant minutes last season, those two being guards Brennan Meyer and Ty Nyberg.
One thing they lack though is height and size.
And with the MSHSL adopting the shot clock, McDonald sees that as an advantage for his squad.
“We will play faster. We will press more. We will be maybe be a little more chaotic than we have in the past. I think you’re going to see that across the board from teams in the state in the shot clock era. It’ll be interesting. Like I said earlier, it’s kind of a project and something new we’re trying to do. The kids have really enjoyed the process so far of playing a little bit differently,” said McDonald.
McDonald also mentioned that a few players could see increased time due to the changes. That included senior guard Bjorn Lind.
“No it’s definitely exciting. I feel like a lot of people don’t really think we’re going to amount to much but we have a lot to prove. Just figure out maturity since a lot of us have not played varsity basketball yet. Just being mature and figuring stuff out,” added Lind.
