Hmong New Year Preparations Take Place At Coppertop Church In Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — The local Twin Ports Hmong community is busy preparing for their annual New Year celebration.

The celebration is happening tomorrow but today was all about getting the traditional food made. Including plenty of egg rolls, purple rice, veggie stir fry, and other dishes.

New Year is a time for family and friends to get together and the Hmong community to share their culture with authentic clothing, music, and dancing.

Cher Pao Vang a cook for the event says he came to America in 1976. He says sharing his culture is very important.

“Not many Hmong here. So, the majority, they don’t know who all the Hmong is. Right? So, we going to share our culture to our friends here. That we apart of this community,” said Vang.

Hmong New Year will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at the Coppertop Church with a program at 11 and lunch at noon. It’s free and everyone is welcome to attend.
