#6 UMD Women’s Hockey Preps for Another Ranked Opponent in #8 St. Cloud State

The two teams would meet six times last year with the Dogs boasting a 5-0-1 record.

DULUTH, Minn.- For the fourth straight weekend, the UMD women’s hockey team will take on a ranked opponent.

The Bulldogs are so far 2-3-1 in that stretch.

This weekend they’ll look to go over the .500 mark with a trip to St. Cloud to face the 8th ranked Huskies.

The two teams would meet six times last year with the Dogs boasting a 5-0-1 record.

This year though, each team has two solid goaltenders a piece. Meaning we could very well see some low-scoring contests this weekend.

“The numbers say that it will be and that’s fine. We’ll play whatever game presents itself and whatever game we sort of dictate out there. If it’s going to be low-scoring, we feel confident in our goaltenders in what they need to do. Also our team defense. That was outstanding on the weekend, especially on sunday. So, we’re confident there and I think we’ve been able to find the back of the net at the right times as well,” said head coach Maura Crowell.

With solid goaltending, it means it can come down to some of the unsung heroes.

“First lines can cancel each other out. Everyone’s good in this league. With the teams that we’re playing, a lot of the times it’s the 3rd line matchup and we have a lot of confidence in our 3rd line. I think they’re getting a lot of confidence for themselves too with how they’ve been producing. So it’s been super cool to see,” added captain Mannon McMahon.

Puck drop for game one is Friday at 6:01 PM.
