Northern Star: Dashawn Moore
Senior brings energy, defense to hungry Hunters team
DULUTH, Minn.- On a team full of playmakers, sharpshooters, and athletic specimens, Duluth Denfeld’s Dashawn Moore has found a way to make his presence known.
“I bring the energy and it just feeds off,” says Moore. “We’re going to ball out, we’re going to do what we’re supposed to do.”
As a football player at heart, Moore brings the same kind of physicality on the court that was expected of him on the turf with the Hunters.”
“He’s like…. Our Draymond Green on our team.” Smiled Head Coach Phil Homere, who’s coached Dashawn since he was in middle school. “We know what to expect from him, we’re constantly putting him on the other team’s best player, and he’s going to bring you the heart. When he buys in, he’s just hectic on the defensive end of the basketball.”
With this being his senior year, Dashawn’s taking on a bigger role in hopes of helping his teammates reach their potential. “I’m going to be a leader this year, hands down.” What does he plan on doing as a leader? “Holding them accountable each way and every way. Academics, (they’ve) got to do good in class. Don’t put them down in a game, you know? If they miss a shot, we all miss a shot, move on from it, you’ll make the next one.”
“I’ve been playing with Dashawn since fourth grade,” says teammate and fellow Denfeld senior Aiden Altona. “(Dashawn has) always been very vocal, loves getting involved with the team, loves getting involved with our coaches and just always keeping everything positive everything hyped up, making sure everyone is going 110 percent constantly.”
And after a promising end to last season, Dashawn knows that the sky’s the limit for the Denfeld Hunters.
“We’re really improving a lot this year, from when we lost to Hermantown, but now we’re coming back, and we’re fitting to prove what we can do, and put our team on the map. We’re one of the greatest programs in this North. We’re going to prove what we can do this year. I think we’re going to do awesome. We’re going to put on a show for the crowd, and we’re going to win and bring the state title to this school.”
The Hunters have started their season at 2-1 overall, including a big win over Hermantown Tuesday night.
