Rubber Chicken Theater Produces ‘Mayor Mia! – Emily’s Christmas Musical’
DULUTH, Minn. — The annual holiday sketch comedy revue by the Rubber Chicken Theater returns this Friday with “Mayor Mia! – Emily’s Christmas Musical.”
Rehearsals were underway Sunday evening at Stage Four (former Underground Theatre) in the Duluth Depot.
The revue is all about looking back at the past year by creating sketch comedy, much like Saturday Night Live.
Topics this go-around include “Mad Max MnDOT apocalyptic freeway construction,” “Street names for Minnesota marijuana,” DECC jokes and a “Broadway musical celebration of Emily Larson’s mayoral life.”
“We’re going to take a musical lookback through parody and have some fun at Emily Larson’s career as a mayor. We’re going to say goodbye to her, honor some of the things she’s done over the past year comedically and have some fun. We’ve done that with all of the mayors that left at the end of their service. We also have sketches that anything that happened in the past year is fair game. So we focus on the local, so we do local sketches. We’re local actors, local writers. So we got some sketches with Mayoral-elect Roger Reinert involved,” explained Brian Matuszak, creator of the Rubber Chicken Theater.
Mayor Mia! takes the stage Dec. 22, 23, 29 and 30.
7:30 p.m.
$25 per person.
