The Perfect Christmas Tree
Duluth
MN – Monte Miller says business is booming. Even with the proliferation and convenience of artificial, he says, real trees seem to be making a comeback. ” Now we have quite a few people in their 30s with children getting out of their mini vans, Suvs and stuff like that. So yeah, I’ve been pretty pleased with that. There is a future,” he said.
But how do you find the perfect tree? Monte says it’s all in the eyes of the beholder, and he tries to be ready.
In order to do that you need to come out with tall trees, short trees, wide trees skinny trees. Full trees like this. Trees that are a little more open like that. You’re not sure what the definition is about the perfect tree so you try to bring out everything”.
Miller also says to consider the space in your home and choose a tree that will fit comfortably.
“Look at the top, look at the bottom. Make sure it fits in your stand. Make sure if you have to cut any branches to get it to go in the stand the branches you cut off don’t change the appearance.”
…and take care of it when you get home by giving the tree a fresh cut.
“They’ll start sapping over again in three or four hours and that creates a seal and the tree doesn’t draw the water as well. That’s very important. Your tree is not going to draw water as good if you don’t give it a fresh cut,” Miller added.
His customers mean everything to him. They often send pictures of their families and the tree they purchased.
“You wouldn’t believe how many people actually like send you a picture of their tree decorated. They say, hey…look at last year’s tree. So it’s kind of neat.”
Monte hopes he gives as much joy to others this season as he received as a young boy growing up.
Dad would never go a year without a Christmas Tree. Even if mom made him put it downstairs. We always had a Christmas Tree somewhere.
