WLSSD Opens Multiple Treecycling Locations Around The Northland
DULUTH, Minn. — It is officially treecycling time for the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District as sites are now open to drop your tree off.
Holiday trees like yard and garden waste are illegal to put into the trash, according to WLSSD.
They are a big resource the company can use and save landfill space. All of the trees collected will go back to the Yard Waste Compost Site to eventually make their Garden Green compost.
There are many drop off sites located all around the area for residents to bring them when it’s most convenient.
“Historically we used to do it one day and it really wasn’t convenient for people so, we transitioned to having a lot of sites open for several weeks and we actually have 3 sites that are open all the way through the end of January,” said Lorilee Blais, Environmental Program Coordinator at WLSSD.
WLSSD wants to remind those dropping off trees to remove all of the decorations and tree stands before bringing them to a “treecycling” location. All of the drop off sites are listed below:
Six sites are open for tree drop-off December 21st through January 10th:
- Chester Bowl (parking lot by playground)
- Lester Park (parking lot by playground)
- Duluth Heights Community Club (parking lot across the street)
- Woodland Community Club (lower parking lot off Woodland Ave)
- Rose Garden (parking lot)
- Grand Avenue Chalet at the base of Spirit Mountain (parking lot)
Two sites in Carlton County are open December 21st through January 31st
- SAPPI Fine Paper (Cloquet, gatehouse entrance)
- Moose Lake Compost Site (across from City garage)
