Bourbon, A Popular, Hard-to-Find Holiday Drink

Fitger's Wine Cellar Stocked Up on Drinks For Any Taste Before the Holidays

DULUTH, Minn. — When you think of the holiday season, there’s some classic drinks that come to mind: spiked eggnog, festive cocktails, champagne.

At Fitger’s Wine Cellar, however, they make sure to have options for anyone of legal drinking age. This year, store manager David Anderson said bourbon has been flying off the shelves, even with increasing prices.

“A lot of other countries have developed a taste for American bourbon: Europe, Japan, Korea, China,” Anderson said. “And there’s only so much made, and so a lot of the supply gets siphoned off. It takes years for the next batches to be ready to go. So it creates a big shortage and large demand.”

In the last decade, Anderson says bourbon prices have increased by five or more times. To meet demands, the Wine Cellar holds onto bourbons and other hard-to-find drinks until the holidays. That way, customers can celebrate with the perfect bottle.
