Update On Ski Hills In The Northland

Rain and warm weather put a damper on local ski hills, causing them to close. Here’s an update on what’s going on with them now:

DULUTH, Minn. — After closing due to several days of rain, Spirit Mountain is now back open. The hill opened back up Thursday at 10 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Crews have been hard at work repairing and prepping snow surfaces after all of the unexpected weather thrown at them but are looking on the bright side that snowmaking temperatures are expected to return soon. It is also important to note that not all runs are open for skiers and snowboarders yet.

SUPERIOR, Wis. — As for Mont du Lac Resort over in Superior, operations resumed yesterday after having to close due to poor weather conditions. A few of the ski runs are open and the restaurant and bar is open as well. Thursday the hill is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday they are hoping to be open till 9 p.m. depending on if weather allows. Employees say they are continuously working on making snow when the right temperatures are hit.

DULUTH, Minn. — Meanwhile for Chester Bowl sadly, it is not the same outcome. The warm weather and rain have degraded their snow base to the point where it cannot be repaired with grooming alone. That’s according to their Facebook page. Their timeline for reopening is uncertain until temps allow for snowmaking. Chester Bowl will not be able to open until sometime after the New Year begins.
